The key insight:
It is easier to examine the teacher, the church, the culture, or the world than to examine ourselves. But Scripture does not allow the remnant to remain only outward-looking. At some point, the Word becomes a mirror. It exposes pride that still wants recognition, motives that are not as pure as they appear, obedience that has been delayed, and areas we have learned to justify rather than surrender. James warns against hearing the Word without doing it. Paul tells believers to examine themselves. David prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart.” The mirror does not condemn; it reveals what still requires alignment. The question is not simply, What do I know? The deeper question is, What is the Word actually changing in me?
